This research review describes how cognitive functioning and academic achievement are associated with physical activity and fitness level. It was prepared by the Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) to inform the work of the Illinois Enhance Physical Education (PE) Task Force, which is charged with revising the state learning standards for physical development and health based on neuroscience research.
