Built Environment to Support Physical Activity
ISPAN’s goal is to support Illinois communities in offering direct, convenient and safe activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations that have been enhanced to support physical activity.
Many Illinois towns, cities and regions have done extensive, forward-thinking visioning and planning to create roadmaps to transform their communities into activity-friendly places but lack the capacity and resources to make these plans a reality.
ISPAN is fast-tracking the implementation of these plans and policies with a focus on 3 priority regions: Chicago/Cook County, the Peoria/Tazewell/Woodford Tri-County region, and Jackson County.
As part of the CDC’s Active People, Healthy Nation movement, communities can join Active People, Healthy Illinois and develop biking, walking, and complete streets plans and policies that promote physical activity.
