On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) and the Alliance for Health Equity were recognized by the Cook County Department of Public Health for our valued partnership and meaningful contributions to the Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan.
Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan is Suburban Cook County’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) which provides a five-year roadmap for improving the health and well-being of residents across the region. Developed routinely every five years through a community-driven process, the plan brings together local data, community perspectives, and lived experience to identify key health priorities and establish a framework for coordinated action.

IPHI's Alliance for Health Equity team contributed to the Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan through the Community Health Assessment (CHA) process, including leading community engagement focus groups, a critical part of each CHIP that supports the development of priorities and strategies.
Support for this CHA builds on the Alliance for Health Equity's broader commitment to bringing health systems and community partners together to better understand and address the conditions that shape health. By grounding planning in both data and community voice, the Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan process creates an opportunity to move beyond identifying health challenges toward coordinated, measurable action.
IPHI also contributed directly to the development of the plan through participation in its behavioral health planning process. This work helped bring additional expertise and perspective to one of the Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan’s three priority areas and reinforced the importance of addressing mental health and substance use through collaborative, community-centered approaches.
The release of the Building Healthier Communities 2030 Plan marks an important transition from assessment and planning to implementation. Over the next five years, the Cook County Department of Public Health and its partners will work together to advance strategies across the plan’s three priority areas. IPHI is proud to continue its partnership with the Cook County Department of Public Health and other community partners as this work moves forward. Our continued involvement reflects a shared commitment to advancing health equity, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and supporting strategies that respond to the needs and priorities of Suburban Cook County communities.
