With support from many partners, the Illinois Public Health Institute is excited to release the brand new, “Food is Medicine Guidebook” highlighting emerging best practices in specific types of Food is Medicine programs.
This resource supports healthcare and community-based practitioners who plan to launch or expand Produce Prescription and Voucher Incentive programs. These programs are core components of the broader Food is Medicine approach, which uses access to nutritious foods as a tool to prevent, manage, and treat chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. IPHI’s goal is to increase the number of places newly issuing voucher incentives or offering produce prescription programs, enhance processes for existing programs, and increase enrollment in those programs.
IPHI proudly offers technical assistance as part of our participation in the State Physical Activity and Nutrition program, in partnership with IDPH, and a collaborative agreement with the CDC. If your organization is establishing or expanding produce prescription or voucher incentive programs, we invite you to review this new resource and reach out to our Nutrition Initiatives Program Manager, Trevor Johnson, at trevor.johnson@iphionline.org for technical assistance, questions, and support!
